Montgomery County students deserve the ability to access public transportation regardless of where they live. Many students live in homes without cars and many others rely on public transportation to get to school, work or care for family members.

The Montgomery County Council is currently debating whether to allow all youth under the age of 18 the opportunity to take RideOn and Metrobus for free. The Kids Ride Free program currently allows students to use the bus system for free between 2pm - 8pm during weekdays. The proposal at the council would expand access all day, every day, for kids under 18.

By expanding the Kids Ride Free program, students all across the County will have an opportunity to increase their productivity. Almost immediately, youth will have free RideOn access to and from school, to internships, and to part-time jobs. The environment stands to benefit from the expanded Kids Ride Free program because more people will be moved in fewer vehicles. Even our parents can benefit from an expanded Kids Ride Free program; they will no longer have to choose between getting to work on time or dropping their child off at school safely.

Kids Ride Free is a family issue, an equity issue, and an economic issue. Montgomery County is taking steps to unlock the full potential of all its youth.

Your support is needed now more than ever! Let's make sure the expanded Kids Ride Free program gets added to the budget.
