Mia Jeremiah started this petition to Montezuma-Cortez High School

Due to new rules and regulations, part-time students are not allowed to be a part of choir or band at Montezuma-Cortez High School. But in a lot of cases, the arts like these are what's keeping these students going, and also what is keeping them on track for their specific college and career path goals. Sign the petition to allow part-time students in our community to keep the art and passion of music alive in their high school careers. We can't lose this hope for so many of our young and talented, passionate individuals who have put so much of themselves into these arts throughout their entire lives.

This year, because of the COVID 19 crisis, so many of our students are being forced to switch to part-time or online learning. This has lead authorities and board members in our school to put in mask rules and regulations. They're saying that this is part of the reason that part-time students can't be a part of choir: because there will be no mask rule in choir. But what does this mean when they also say that part-time students can't join band, even though masks are required in band? This has lead some of our students to believe that rather than this being a safety procotion, its an advantage to a way to suppress the arts in our high school, and that they have been trying to for years. A huge chunk of our chamber choir will be lost if these part-time students aren't allowed to come back this year. It's a devastating loss for our dedicated seniors who won't get the chance to come back again next year.
