Stop the conversion of Cass and Harrison streets

Stop the conversion of Cass and Harrison streets
Why this petition matters

The following residents of Cass and Harrison streets are against Monroe City Councils proposal to change from one way streets to two way streets. These roads are not wide enough to accommodate two way traffic. Conjesting these roads with more traffic would cause a hazard for emergency vehicles, school buses, public transportation, delivery services etc. The parking on these streets would also be impacted. Over 80% of Cass street residents do not have driveways. City council says we should park in the alley. These alleys are not safe! Most residents rely on street parking. Many residents are elderly or have small children.Crossing the street is already a challenge. Monroe City Council says that they want to hear from the residents. we presented to them a previous petition against the two way streets and it was lost, we placed orange signs in our yards showing our opposition of this proposal, we tied orange ribbons on the trees that line the street opposing this proposal. Monroe City Council needs to open their eyes and ears and listen to their constituents. City Council says this is for future downtown development and to bring in people from out of town. Monroe City Council reported that they spent 80,000 on a company to draw up a master plan for Monroe. Why would you destroy a neighborhood to accommodate out of town guests.
