Bring Back Microwaves in Residential Lounges

Bring Back Microwaves in Residential Lounges
Why this petition matters
Since microwaves have been removed from residential lounges for several weeks now due to "COVID health and safety precautions", many students felt the need to purchase their own microwaves.
As room checks are going on this week at Monmouth University, many students have experienced the confiscation of their personal microwaves. Now, these students are left with no microwave to prepare their own food.
Students were given the option to rent a microwave through "MyMicroFridge", however, the only microwaves available for Monmouth University come in a unit with a fridge attached. This is inconvenient for students who brought their own fridges. The only two options for these students are 1) purchase the micro-fridge and have spent money on a personal fridge for no reason, or 2) live without a microwave and have to rely on a friend with a microwave.
These two options that students are left with are a major problem because 1) the money they spent on their own fridge will go to waste and 2) a friend may not always be around to let the student in to use their microwave.
Although COVID precautions are serious, a shared microwave will not increase the spread of COVID. Why are microwaves not allowed in lounges when food in the dining hall sits out for everyone to take?
College students should have the right to a microwave so that they can make food that they can enjoy. Please take the time to sign this petition as we hope this issue can be resolved.
