Protest the rise in business rates in Monmouth and the fees for advertising boards.

Business rates Across the UK are set to rise and indeed in some parts of the country, Businesses have seen Extortionate rises of up 5000%. Small Independant traders are worst affected while large corporations and chain shops enjoy an almost exclusively pass on rates with some receiving a 0% increase. This is unfair and wrong and councils should be doing more to protect small independent businesses and traders which our small market towns thrive upon. In Monmouth there has also been and outcry over the charges introduced for Advertising boards in the street. Most businesses use these boards as they rely upon tourist trade which their businesses are affected because they don't fall on the footfall or down side streets of town centres. The Argument isn't the charging of them more the ridiculous excuse given that they are a Health and Safety hazard (most businesses carry PLI). But the council seem to overlook the health and safety aspect providing the businesses pay for the privilege. Again this is wrong and is yet another way this govt and council are using to screw more money from businesses and the public
