Residents Allentown, NJ 08501 started this petition to Monmouth County Commissioner Thomas A. Arnone and

PETITION FOR THE PROHIBITION OF TRUCK TRAFFIC ON CHURCH STREET (C.R. 526) AND MAIN STREET (C.R. 524) IN ALLENTOWN BOROUGH

We, the residents of Allentown Borough, support this petition to the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners and request the prohibition of all trucks from Church Street and Main Street with the exception of local deliveries.

Tractor trailers and other large trucks are using Church Street and Main Street to save time and bypass more appropriate routes such as Interstate 195.

Trucks are using Exit 7 of Interstate 195 to enter the Borough by way of Church Street and could instead be directed to Exit 8 and to the Allentown Bypass to avoid Church Street and Main Street.

  • These roads are narrow, being originally constructed 100+ years ago
  • Trucks are not able to make ‘legal’ turns within existing drive lanes
  • Trucks create undue noise and vibration which is damaging to the Historic homes in the Borough which date back to the 1700’s.
  • Trucks exceed the speed limit
  • Trucks use Borough roads for U-turns
  • The intersections of Church Street and Main Street cannot accommodate safe turning movements
  • Trucks require all other traffic to stop so they can cross the double yellow line and maneuver the turn
  • Trucks have repeatedly driven over the curb, sidewalk, handicap ramp, decorative bollards, streetlights, and street signs because the roads are not able to safely accommodate tractor trailers.

By signing, you support the above and the submission of this petition to the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners.
