Because censorship is censorship, plain and simple. Firing a man for just "talking" about rape is only making sure that everyone will be so afraid to even bring up the subject that nothing will ever be done to stop it.

Censorship is never a good response. A decision to sever a connection with a writer is the publisher's acceptance of censorship. Rejecting a proposal or demanding a change based on the publisher's intent or desires is a commercial decision - rejecting the writer outright without recourse is cowardice.

I do not support attacks on freedom of speech and this whole "PC Gone Wild" needs to stop. People need to look at things in an objective manner.

Because movies like Shawshank Redemption, Thelma, and Louise, American History X, The Accused, Pulp Fiction, and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo couldn't have been made without including a certain "plot device".

Although the tone of Mr. Desborough's writing may be objectionable to some, censorship by Internet-backdraft could kill the career of any writer who chooses a sensitive subject for their work. That is an unintended consequence too far.
This is about standing up to oppression by the mob.

the petition against james desborough seems like a deliberate and malicious attempt to attack the man for dealing with a sensitive topic in a way that the author of the previous petition just doesn't understand and refuses to appreciate. hypersensitivity at its worst.

I've known James for about a decade and the accusations are simply so far from his character that it's ridiculous. Just read the interview on geeknative - cleverly misusing someone's words to have them vilified is a crappy thing to do and Mongoose should feel ashamed for not looking very hard before making a decision.

Because the entire thing is based on misinformation, misquoting and an inability to recognise that in fiction, like real life, nasty things happen.

No one's career should be ruined because people MISQUOTE their work to score a cheap political point
