Petitioning Monarch High School/Boulder Valley School Board

Require American Sign Language to be offered at Monarch High School

Monarch High School is the center-based program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in the Boulder Valley School District. This year, Monarch High School abolished their American Language Program even though Deaf students and their siblings attend, or will attend, that high school. Furthermore, students who are enrolled in the current single course offering, ASL 2, and who wish to meet college entrance requirements (3 years of a foreign language) are told to pay out of pocket to take ASL 3 at the University of Colorado next year. This decision is discriminatory and counter to the Deaf Child's Bill of Rights which is law in Colorado.
