Moira Shire Council, grant the food trucks a permit to operate in Yarrawonga over Summer.

At the November 22 meeting of the Moira Shire Council, PLANNING PERMIT APPLICATION 52017183 USE AND DEVELOPMENT PLACE OF ASSEMBLY; FOOD AND DRINKS PREMISES AT 9-11 HUNT STREET YARRAWONGA was refused for the following reasons:
“1. The proposal will have a detrimental impact on the amenity of the area, particularly with respect to noise, odour, car parking and traffic management.”
“2. The proposal is not in keeping with its surrounds with respect to the transient and temporary nature of the proposed use and development.”
With respect to point 1, the proposed site is a respectful distance from most private residences and close to a generous amount of free public parking along the Yarrawonga foreshore.
With respect to point 2, the area is rife with temporary fencing, incomplete demolition and construction works, and buildings in disarray. If anything, these food trucks would revitalise and attract people to a seldom-used area of our town. Furthermore, the temporary nature of the proposal makes the argument that it would not be in keeping with the surrounds moot.
This application complies with planning laws. If it didn’t, it would’ve been rejected on those grounds instead of the unfounded and uninformed opinions of a vocal minority with a vested interest in seeing this application denied.
Most importantly, this event would boost the economy of the township of Yarrawonga and the Moira Shire in general due to the increased tourism it would attract.
We, the undersigned, demand that the Moira Shire Council approve this permit.
