Stop the closure of Holt Park Health Centre

Local residents in the Holt Park, Tinshill, Ireland Wood and Cookridge areas of Leeds 16 have heard that their GP surgery at Holt Park is closing and that there is an expectation that patients will transfer to a surgery operated by a new merged GP practice at Moor Grange. This would present considerable difficulties for patients, especially for any patients currently served by the Holt Park surgery who do not have their own car or who cannot drive, whether for age or medical reasons. Moor Grange is a considerable walking distance from the Holt Park surgery and there is a considerable gradient between the two sites for anyone who is making that walk when they are unwell. The bus service is irregular and for many involves 2 buses. In addition, the population of LS16 is growing with new housing development currently taking place in Bodington Manor, Cookridge Hospital and Centurion Fields and more being planned, including older people's housing next to the surgery. All this will place create additional need for GP services in the area. The proposals (if implemented) would create significant difficulties for patients. They fail to recognise planned local development and its needs. And the patient population has had little say in the proposals, the consultation process having been handled poorly. We call on NHS England to intervene in this closure, and to make sure that the views and needs of patients are properly considered.
