Mohave County Parks

Why this petition matters

Started by Ryan Hicks

Mountain biking (MTB) is an industry worth over 5 billion dollars as of 2020 with a 12% growth rate annually. Mohave County Parks could greatly increase their entry fee revenue by allowing this sport in the Hualapai Mountain Park. Trail plans have been submitted which would allow for the creation of cross country trails and a skills park that would intersect existing hiking trails. These have been turned down by the county board of supervisors likely due to concerns of disturbing the hiking trails and hikers. However, this grossly ignores a key demographic of potential trail users and nature enthusiasts.

The additional missed revenue could contribute to trail preservation. Kids and adults alike would have a wonderful location to play, exercise, and improve their skills in a constructive, fun, healthy, and safe environment.

The residents of the surrounding area have a desire to enjoy this natural land managed by the parks. These resources are public and should be available to all types of non-motorized recreational groups. Horses and hikers are currently permitted. Why not mountain bikers?

Many people travel to Las Vegas, Flagstaff, California, Utah, and other areas to enjoy mountain bike parks. Mohave County is missing out not only on the local revenue that would be generated, but on a major tourist industry.
