Stop using toxic chemicals on Fresh Del Monte banana plantations

Do you know how bananas affect people?

Del Monte is using toxic chemicals on their banana plantations and banana workers. The banana industry uses more agrochemicals than any other industry except cotton.

Pregnant women have to unfold bags coated in chlorpyrifos, which causes numbness, weight loss, birth defects, loss of libido, respiratory problems, and suicidal thoughts. Chemical sprayers often are used with contaminated or improper equpiment. Spraying often occurs while workers are on the field, although it should happen early in the morning before workers arrive. This causes workers on the fields to vomit, pass out, have skin problems, or even be paralyzed. The chemicals often get in their eyes. Some of these chemicals may not be legal.

Del Monte denies this, but workers in Cameroon have told their stories in interviews.

See the short film "Portraits from Cameroon" here.

Del Monte shoud use non-toxic chemicals on their bags, and use non-toxic chemicals on their plantations while workers are not present.

Del Monte is known as a non-responsive corporation. They are denying the truth, and this has to stop. Make Del Monte own up to what it is doing and stop hurting workers. Take a stand to make a difference in the lives of thousands of innocent people.
