Why this petition matters

Started by Kevin Geenen

It is understood that users of the Wild Waterworks water slides need to be weighed for safety purposes. However, the key issue here is how the weighing is conducted.

It is well-known that Wild Waterworks isn’t the newest of facilities. Therefore, for some slides, a regular household scale that displays a person’s weight is used to facilitate safe slide access. This arrangement is concerning, specifically for the estimated 1 million Canadians who have eating disorders and could potentially be triggered by seeing how much they weigh.

Again, it is important to emphasize that the key issue here is how the weighing is conducted, with the full understanding that users must be weighed for safety reasons.

Therefore, in order to remedy the situation, we, the undersigned, recommend the following:

1. The weighing device used be immediately changed to a device that only displays the weight to the slide attendants (not slide users), or, even better, simply displays a red or green light OR that some other solution be implemented.
2. All Wild Waterworks slide attendants be immediately trained to never say a person’s weight out loud.

See the story about the weighing policy on CHCH News.
