Sex Education in the Healthy Oakland Teens Curriculum needs to be modified. The curriculum has become more anatomy focused, and lacks important information around the LGBTQ+ community, intimacy, and relationships, which are important matters when it comes to sex itself. The material is also taught by teachers who aren't trained to do so (whichever science teacher is available), which results in the content not being taught to its fullest capacity. Having teachers trained in these areas educate the youth on these matters will allow the teaching environment to feel more safe, useful, and important. Sex ed is important, and shouldn't be a chore for teachers, it should be a program that informs us.
