Save Marine Life in Aqaba

Save Marine Life in Aqaba
Why this petition matters
Over the past decade plastic has become more and more of a problem, yet we cannot seem to grasp the dangers that it holds to future life and to the next generation. Plastic has become a very real trouble to many varieties of marine life including fish, Sea mammals, Sea Birds and the tiny micro-organisms called plankton that many larger animals feed on. In Jordan, where tourism is an important economic pillar disadvantaged by a strong visual pollution. More than 30 million bags are littered each year across the country, most of which end up in the port of Aqaba.
This is why we need to change the existing pattern of plastic bags' consumption and disposal.
We, a group of grade 5 students from the MMS, call for the replacement of disposable plastic bags with reusable bags at mass-merchandisers and grocery stores. To achieve that, we suggest imposing the nominal fee of 10 piasters per plastic bags for shoppers to encourage them to bring their own reusable ones, and creating an environmental fund with proceeds from the proceeds.
