Attendance Alert Changes

As it stands, when children are absent from school, parents are not alerted by phone call until six o'clock in the evening. If parents were not previously aware of their child's absence, six o'clock is far too late to alert them. This policy is dangerous.

I propose that, if children are not present by noon, parents should receive a call to alert them of the absence. By alerting parents sooner, MCPSS can help parents make sure that our children are where they are expected to be. In light of recent events in Mobile and other cities, knowing our children are safe and accounted for can make all the difference.

I fully believe that MCPSS is capable of making this change and, with our influence, I hope they will do so very soon.
