Ellen Hogan started this petition to Representative Mo Brooks and

As Alabamians we all know someone or are someone that is affected by mental illness and or addiction.  I am someone that for the majority of my adult life has struggled with mental illness.  I don’t feel we here in the great state of Alabama seek or allot enough funding for Mental Health Care/Addiction Recovery.  We need to break the stigma of mental illness and bring it to the forefront of conversations.  Mental Illness and Addiction Recovery should work side by side they should not be separate entities.  We have a crying need for better facilities, crisis care, and long term treatment for every individual that struggles with any form of mental illness.  I know my struggle that I battle daily and I have been fortunate enough to have medical insurance, but we have so many Alabamians that are not as fortunate and I feel we  need better funding for uninsured Alabamians to receive affordable mental health care.  I believe if we would take away the stigma/taboo of mental illness and we begin to discuss it more and make individuals more comfortable knowing “It is okay to not be okay”.  Plus by seeking and using the funding properly every Alabamian would benefit. A mentally well Alabama would be a Greater Alabama.

Please sign this petition and forward it to others to sign to show our State Representatives on the local and federal level that we need monies dedicated through a Bill or discretionary money to fund initiatives to make medications and programs accessible to all Alabamians fighting the battle.
