Energy independence for Canada
This petition had 130 supporters
Last year in 2016 Canada imported 760,000 barrels of oil per day from countries like Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Nigeria. Canada imported 2.1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas into Quebec in 2016. We have in Canada some of the largest reserves of oil and gas in the world and yet we import so much energy. Energy independence would require pipelines to the East for both gas and oil and would support our Canadian economy.
Currently Quebec stands to gain by not supporting pipelines to the East because they sell power to the US and energy independence that would support the west could hurt their trade deals. Quebec stands in the way of our energy exports that cripples our economy in the west and yet we send Quebec transfer payments in the billions of dollars. This is insane and will divide our country to the point of separation from the East due to opposing agendas.
If we make it federal law that Canada cannot import any form of energy it will support our economy and eliminate dirty energy that is provided by countries that don't observe human rights and environmental standards that we have here in Canada.
sign the petition to move Canada to energy independence and pipelines will be built through need.
