Brian Rathgeber started this petition to Mitch McGrath and

At the last board meeting Superintendent Olson presented a slide showing a tentative HS schedule of 9:45am – 3:15pm and proposed start date of April 26.  This was later shortened to only 9:00am – 12:35pm.  This was done with no discussion from the board or input from the parents. In addition to cutting out two hours of in-person time at the school per day, which our students have waited patiently so long for, this also puts many Cottage Grove families in a position where they will need to commute back the MGHS again for after school activities such as cross-country, baseball, tennis, etc. No MG students should need to spend 80 minutes in the car or be at double the risk of being in a car accident commuting every day.  Our students can safely eat lunch outside or spread out into the gym or classrooms for lunch, they do not need to all sit in the cafeteria.  Our students want to be in school.  The vast majority of Wisconsin high schools are fully open.  Other Dane County high schools are also more fully opening, Waunakee, Sun Prairie, etc..  Students learn best in the classroom and the science is clear: it is safe to more fully open schools.  We, the parents and students of Monona Grove High School, call upon the Monona Grove School District to revert back to the schedule originally proposed and more fully reopen on April 26th.  Let's finish the year strong!
