Austin High School Girl Up started this petition to Senator Mitch McConnell and

Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8 and H.R. 112, two bills that would require universal background checks, close the loopholes for buyers at gun shows and private sellers online, and extend the current background check review period from three days to ten. As the number of mass shootings across America skyrocket, we need to hold our public officials accountable and make our voices heard. It's time that the 97% of Americans that want common sense background checks to be passed, to be heard. Our representatives are elected to represent us, not the lobbyists such as the NRA that back them. We shouldn't have to live our lives wondering if it will be our last day. There shouldn't have been a shooting in El Paso, or in Dayton, or in Odessa, or in the hundreds of cities were lives have been lost due to gun violence. It is time to act. Sign this petition to hold Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell accountable, as he is preventing the passage of H.R. 8 and H.R. 112 by refusing to hold a vote. Sign this petition to encourage your senators to take action. Sign this petition to encourage our president to rally the Republican Party around common sense gun reform. We need to act. Gun violence has run rampant in our country for long enough. Let's make a change. Let's be the difference.
