Why this petition matters

The problem I would like to address is the struggles families face after separation more specifically families with children. Separation and usually many years after is a trying time for families between the damages caused by divorce and the usual inequities it provides there are many struggles to overcome and in most cases the struggle can be more difficult for one parent than the other. I would like to help alleviate these issues so the parents can focus on their children and provide the best life possible. Many of these problems revolve around the financial stress and mental health post separation another issue is that children of single parents and lower income families have more difficulties in life whether it be the lower income, or a parent shackled down due to supporting two households not being able to be as involved, parents stressed by the rigors of being single or even absent parents.

The way I propose we solve these issues is by implementing a program for Missouri families more specifically separated Missouri families. This program would be available for all families but a minimum mandatory acknowledgement for separated families this program though being for all would focus on separated families and parents that are unemployed or underemployed this program would focus on education, training, job placement, and psychological and financial counseling. This program would be similar in effect to programs offered to veterans by the federal government.

This program would be supported by the states current Title IV D entilments as well as a percentage paid by the courts based off the amount of support cases in each jurisdiction i believe that it is also necessary to make judges in family courts pay a small fee for each support order as well to ensure that they have a vested interest in what's best for the children in the case I also believe its necessary for individuals who give up or have the rights for their children taken away to monetarily support the program.

I believe that the proposed action would be invaluable to Missouri and her citizens and by investing in the families we invest in the future. The changes I hope to see are a brighter future for Missouris youth a more successful and productive workforce with less people dependent on handouts to survive i foresee a lower poverty level and with that a lowere crime level not only from better opportunities but from more parents being involved in their children's lives. Overall I see a better missouri.
