Mississippi State has decided to cancel tailgating for the fall football season of 2020. though it was well intended for the safety of the students and fans, many believe it’s a little extreme. Bars have opened up, restaurants, malls, etc. Tailgating is a huge part in what makes Mississippi State so great, our fans are like none other. The following is a list to consider under the unfortunate circumstances of covid-19 hopefully allowing the school to allow tailgating:

1.Since the football stadium is open to fans, so should the junction. Limit the size of the tailgate and the number of tents that are allowed to be placed to practice a form of social distancing by downsizing. The school can handout a certain number of wristbands to limit the crowd of people in the junction.  

2. If you have had any symptoms or have been around anyone that has tested positive for covid-19, be considerate and quarantine yourself or get tested before you decide to put others at risk. We would like the tailgates to be a safe as possible under the circumstances. Security can take the temperature of everyone entering junction to make the tailgate environment a safer place. 

3. If tailgating is canceled, there should be no reason for fall classes not to be moved back to online. There is no reason to allow one thing and not the other. Many students come in contact with hundreds of people In classes and passing them on campus. 

4. With all of the legal social gatherings taken place recently on vacations, political rallies/protests, shopping malls, and work opening back up, there should be no reason not to allow tailgates. 

As a student of Mississippi State, I understand and appreciate the measures that the school has taken to provide safety to their students. With new techniques and medical statistics that our healthcare workers discover daily on ways to combat covid-19 in social environments, we would like to be as safe as possible with opening the tailgates.
