Mississippi State University announced they will allow only 2,500 student tickets sales for the 2020 season. The capacity for the season is 15,334 meaning the students will only take up 16.3% of the total capacity. Although that percentage is normal for the average season, this is not a normal/average season. The students only get ~4 years of the college student experience. Making this decision of only selling 2,500 tickets takes away a huge part of the college experience for about 89% of the student body for this season.

Not only are there only 2,500 tickets for the entire student body, 200 of those tickets will immediately go to the band leaving 2,300 tickets for the other 21,000+ students.

Students are paying more tuition now than anyone ever before. Students deserve first priority in the selection for who does/doesn’t get to attend football games for the 2020 season. Schools like Notre Dame, Auburn, etc are making sure their students are in the gates first, before the alums. Mississippi State should follow those schools’ actions and make sure that all the students that want to be in the games get in and get the experience the alumni have already been through.

The football team is already losing 1-2 home games because of the revised schedule. Now, the university wants to take away an entire season for nearly 90% of the student body. A different strategy should be put in place to ensure as many students are in Davis Wade as possible this fall.
