Katelyn Porche started this petition to Mississippi Department of Education and

I want to change the dress code. People are spending hundreds of dollars a year buying school clothes when we should be able to wear what we have at home. Some people don't have the money to spend on school clothes. The Jackson County dress code is unacceptable. The dress code is extremely sexist towards women. As a feminist, I believe that women should be able to be confident and not be looked down upon for showing a shoulder or a belly button. Everyone is beautiful and if guys are allowed to show off, why can't women? I understand not being able to show our chests and (you know) but why is showing anything else so bad? They tell us that the dress code is there so we don't distract anyone. Who exactly are we distracting? I've never seen a guy look at a girl because she's wearing a strapless shirt or holey jeans. The only people I've seen distracted is the teachers. We are all almost adults still being treated as 5 year olds. If we are old enough to do adult things, we should be treated like adults. We are not children. Why try to shield us? It's not hurting anyone. Personally, I believe we should do away with the dress code all together. We've had the same one for years. It's the 21st century. If you agree, please sign and share this and for all my girls and boys out there, stay confident. You're all beautiful.
