The rural communities of Western North Carolina need our local hospital - Angel Medical Center, Franklin NC - to continue to provide Labor and Delivery services in Macon County. Angel Medical Center's Women's Unit not only serves Macon County residents, but also serves many other surrounding counties (Jackson, Swain, Haywood, Clay, Graham and the Qualla Boundary), and even residents from north Georgia. This unit is not just for our convenience but also for our safety. It is NECESSARY for our local hospital to accommodate Labor and Delivery patients. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE to have a laboring mother drive 60+ miles to deliver her baby in Asheville. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE TO SLASH this service just because the majority of the patients are low-income and use Medicaid. Nor is it the "RESPONSIBLE DECISION" to make for our community. Please reconsider this decision and keep vital BIRTH SERVICES at Angel Medical Center, as cutting them will be detrimental to the overall health of the community.
