Every minute, the United States government spends $1.9 million on the military.

Millions of Americans face joblessness, hunger, and homelessness — and yet our government still funds war at the rate of more than $30,000 a second.

Here at the American Friends Service Committee, we know how to use that money.

And we're determined to raise $1.9 million for peace.  To do that, we need your help.

Join our One Minute for Peace campaign and help fund our work resolving conflicts and buildingsustainable, peaceful communities.

Just last year, we invested in peace in the following ways ...

$330,000 in Bosnia for "peace gardens" where poor people grow food, heal from the traumas of the war, and make friends with former enemies.
$835,000 in Indonesia, where we've brought communities together in an area ravaged by the tsunami and civil war, to lay the foundation for lasting peace.
$300,000 in the Middle East, where we provide prosthetic limbs for Iraqi refugees, meeting physical needs and repairing shattered lives.
Those three programs add up to $1.465 million — just 46 seconds of the U.S. military budget.

The U.S. budget could be the single greatest tool in the world to support and advance programs of lasting peace and prosperity.

So how can you help?

Donate. With your help, we can do so much.

Educate. Read about where and how we developed our budget numbers, and then tell others.

Write.  Send a message to President Obama. We've provided a message you can personalize.

Thank you for your past support. In these times of uncertainty, help AFSC wage peace at home and abroad.

We're counting on you.

Peace,
