McKenna Togstad started this petition to Minnesota State University Moorhead and

So many seniors at Minnesota State University Moorhead are heartbroken over the news that our commencement, along with other MNState Institutions, for the spring has been cancelled due to COVID-19. We understand that public health is the highest priority currently but ask that our ceremony be postponed rather than cancelled. All of the hours and hard work that has been dedicated to our educations should be recognized through a full ceremony whether it is held in the summer or fall.

Along with that, MSUM holds a tradition where first year students begin their journeys as Dragons by walking through a tunnel created by our faculty and staff. When the time comes to depart our beloved school, the graduating class then walks out of the ceremony through a tunnel made by the same faculty and staff. The people who started as strangers to us have by then become some of the strongest connections we have made during our time at MSUM.

We wish to continue that tradition that so many of us have looked forward to by postponing the spring 2020 ceremony instead of outright cancelling. Our final semester is already being cut short and we ask that we have one final moment with our peers and professors who have helped shape us to who we are today.

Thank you,

Graduating Class of 2020
