Update on Chad’s case

The person identified by Chad and eye witnesses as Chad’s attacker, Ezayah Marcell Gomez Oropreza of Burnsville, MN, was taken into custody September 28, 2021. Gomez Oropreza has been booked into the Stearns County jail awaiting official charges of Felony Assault. This is a victory in the first of many battles in this case. Chad will have a long road to recovery ahead, but his bones will heal over time. I just pray and hope that his great big heart will as well. This has opened my eyes to the system we have in place to help victims of violent crimes in this country and hope it has for others as well. If I have learned anything, it is that defunding the police is NOT the way to go in Minnesota or the other 49 states! Margaret Mead once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” Chad and the entire Waldrop family cannot thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support, prayers, and actions taken to help get this far. We also would like to thank the SCPD and especially Officer Newinski who took Chad to the hospital and made sure he got the medical help he needed that morning. I will continue to give updates as they come throughout this long process ahead. There is a gofundme set up for Chad’s medical bills under “Justice for Chad” if you wish to give. Again, thank each and every one of you and God Bless. - Jerry Waldrop
