Steven H. Snyder & Assoc. started this petition to Minnesota Legislature

I am a Minnesotan and a parent through surrogacy.

Surrogacy is only used when it is not physically possible for aspiring parents to provide gestational care for their own genetic children.

Aspiring parents with physical or medical barriers can still have their own genetic child, but only with the kind support and assistance of a gestational carrier (surrogate). I was one of those aspiring parents, and I wanted to have a family and raise a child like other Minnesotans can. My child and the irreplaceable love I feel as a parent would not exist if not for the availability of surrogacy as a family-building option.

I engaged in surrogacy after careful research and professional guidance. My surrogate was neither poor nor uneducated.  She was fully informed and had professional guidance as well as psychological and medical screening. I support legislation that would mandate these and other reasonable requirements that make surrogacy successful in Minnesota.

I strongly oppose any legislation that would restrict surrogacy in Minnesota, most notably by restricting compensation to surrogates, which would end surrogacy in Minnesota except for extremely rare cases where aspiring parents are lucky enough to have a friend or family member volunteer their significant time and effort to be their surrogate without compensation.

Please accept this letter as evidence of the strength and health of our surrogacy community in Minnesota. I am forever grateful to my surrogate and her family for gifting me my child.  She has forever changed my life for the better and added love and beauty to our community through her kindness.
