It’s time we make changes to our schools capabilities to respond with the online and cellphone threats that our kids are facing while going to school for their education. The typical suspensions for another student sending text messages with threats of death, violence, sexual assault or encouraging suicide should require a mental health health evaluation followed by a stay in a mental facility to make sure it is safe for them to be around their peers. We as parents have had to deal with our daughter at age 13 receiving threats of being followed outside school and being assaulted. The schools were aware and in contact with all parties involved of the situation. Within weeks of threats, it became our daughters reality when four girls attacked her from behind.
I read on KTTC news this morning a12-year-old middle school student from Kasson-Mantorville was sent 31 screenshots of a group chat of boys who discussed what items they would need to kill her. One of the boy’s said he wanted to assault her dead body. Two of the boys were given a one day suspension.
Our children should feel safe when leaving their homes and heading into schools without fearing for their lives due to the mental instability of others. And we as parents need to know that our schools have the capabilities to deal with these situations with better responses then the current policies that are set in place.
