Sand Dunes State Forest is in central Minnesota, and is comprised of approximate 6,000 acres. The area includes monotypic stands of planted pines, and diverse stands of oak savanna, oak woodland, sand prairie, and wetlands. The state forest is a significant site for dozens of rare plant and animal species, as well as globally significant native plant community (oak savanna).
The Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources has committed to maintaining and restoring areas of oak savanna, oak woodland, and prairie to sustain and improve populations of these rare plant and animal species. Unfortunately, there is a small, but vocal, group of citizens that oppose the restoration projects. Please sign this petition to show your support for DNR, habitat conservation and restoration, and conservation of rare species (including pollinators, birds, reptiles, and much more).
