Legalize Goats in Minneapolis!

In 2009 Minneapolis launched a city-led urban agriculture plan "Homegrown Minneapolis". Though we've made great strides as a city towards building a more local and equitable food system, we still have serious work to do. Legalizing goats is the next step we must take!
Its not a revolutionary idea, and its not simply a joke. Seattle, Denver, Portland, San Diego, Baltimore and even Saint Paul, are some of the major U.S. cities that already allow residents to legally raise goats in the city limits (with reasonable restrictions of course). Other cities are following suit -- but not Minneapolis.
In fact, as far back as April 2011, members of the Minneapolis Zoning and Planning Committee voted 4-2 to remove a provision that would simply study the impacts of hoofed animals as part of the city’s urban agriculture policy plan.
In 2013, progressive changes came to a number of the City Council seats, and despite the Council Member who championed that 2011 vote being gone, no additional action was taken for a pathway to legalizing goats in the city.
This year, the Minneapolis Park Board started using goat to combat invasive species. Let's make the next step! Let's allow residents to safely raise goats as companions and sources of dairy.
On November 7th, 2017 Minneapolis residents have the chance to elect a new pro-goat Council and Mayor. We demand they take us seriously. Make Minneapolis the next major city to legalize goats!
