The Kootenay Lake Ferry terminal currently located at Balfour,BC must move to Queens Bay. There are serious Safety, Health and Monetary implications for the East Shore and Beyond. This move will allow for the Osprey to operate year round without low water weight restrictions and provide faster crossings resulting is long and short term savings, fewer environmental impacts and safer operation.

For the residents of the East Shore who were not adequately consulted in this decision and who comprise the vast majority of ferry users to access doctors, dentists, work, school, extra curricular activities and emergency services including hospitals and fire and evacuation centres. Land and water safety is currently negatively impacted: conjested ferry line ups with up to 5 hour waits cause uncertainty for successful evacuation due to natural disasters such as forest fires. There are negative environmental impacts (ongoing dredging of the Balfour ferry terminal) and negative impacts on economic and social growth.

The Kootenay Lake Ferry is a Highway. Frequent closures of the Salmo Creston Pass creates excessive ferry traffic that cannot be currently serviced because of weight restrictions and load capacity.

Moving the ferry to Queens Bay is imperative for the needs of the rural communities and others that rely on this service

Action Petetioned For: We the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the Ministry of Transportation to Halt the current Balfour Improvement Project and move the ferry terminal to Queen's Bay (North Site 2)
