One of the major obstacles to taking to a highway are the number of toll booths one encounters on the way and the exhorbitant tax. The affected are mostly people travelling by their personal transport, a car. Often the toll paid may turn out to be more than the fuel charge! I pay an income tax of well over 8 laks, and am I not contributing towards the development of the country? And I certainly expect a few comforts in return from the government. These days we are all aware that only about 3 % of the population of the country own to earning more than 10 laks and pay any meaningful incometax. Under these circumstances any person paying an incometax of more than say, 5 laks, should be completely exempt from paying highway toll tax, through out the country , when he uses the highways for non-commercial, personal transport. It serves 2 purposes, 1) as encouragement for the honest tax payer and 2) encouragement for tourism industry.
