Children are not really safe anywhere in India. Be it Delhi, Kolkata or Mumbai.
Moreover, a school is not a safe place for our child in India nowadays. The children are getting raped, molested and abused in school. I researched for last 1 year and found so many such cases in private schools. Most of them happened in pre-primary section (3-6 years).
Being the mother of two kids, I am really scared. This is also building a mistrust between school and parents.
A child's education is a shared responsibility of parents and school. So we don't want any scope of mistrust between both.
The main issue what I found is that the parents are not really empowered in private schools.
Section 21 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009 mandates the formation of School Management Committees (SMCs) for all the Government School. SMCs consist predominantly of parents along with teachers, local authorities and the principal.
In my opinion, the same kind of regulation should be implemented for the private schools not only to ensure school safety but also to strengthen the relationship between school and parents.
If a certain percent of parent members are included in the School Management Committee, they can verify the school security system. I believe it will help to improve our child's safety in school and build a trust between both(school and parents) stakeholders.
So, I request the respected authorities to do needful to make it mandatory for all the private schools in India to include parents in their management committee.
