Appeal to include history of the Northeast of India in the history books at school level.

Even after 70 years of our independence, it is very unfortunate that the rich and varied history of the entire Northeast India does not find any mention in the national history text books. I, being a teacher of history and who loves to enlighten the children about our past find it very painful when our children in this part of the country ask me as to why our history is not included in the books. The great history of the tribes of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal, Mizoram and Sikkim etc. including the Ahoms; all have contributed tremendously to the richness of India. The sacrifice and valour of the people of this part of the country during our freedom movement, is by no means any less than anyone else in India.
How many of our countrymen know about Maniram Dewan and Piyali Barua who were hanged during the Sepoy Mutiny or the brave 14 year old Kanaklata Barua who died of bullet injuries trying to hoist the Indian flag or the courage of Rani Gaidinliu of Nagaland or Tirot Singh of Meghalaya who along with his people put up a stiff resistance against the British? Then why is it that we are still deprived of this privilege? How can we blame the new generation of ignorance about this significant part of India as well as a sense of deprivation among the children of this area by the government of India? Isn't it our responsibility to work towards a better India?
Friends, please support me in this endeavour so that we may see a richer and more united India with all our children more aware of the beauty that is the Northeast of India.
