While employers are constantly worried about Work from Home operations during this lockdown period and want to resume as soon as possible, School/Colleges and Major entrance exams that were postponed starting around March 15, show no plans of resuming.
Many National level colleges are taking ad-hoc classes, and schools have no program at all. Children are losing the sense of discipline and what is more bothering is that "Universities are more worried about the exams even though barely half of the syllabus is complete".
We, the people of India, request the MHRD to issue a directive stating the minimum credit hours that has to be taken up by each concerned university per week via online means. Most of the colleges do have an official mail-id allocated to the students and classes can be taken up on Teams/Hangouts, or at the very least assignments can be handed out and evaluated via mail.
Each School Board (ISCE, CBSE, and other State Government Boards) should direct the schools to provide the parents with information on how they are planning to complete the syllabus for the new academic year. They should also communicate with 10th &12th standards students on plans of resuming board exams.
Many private firms are undertaking a regular evaluation of how their employees are performing during this lockdown period. Similar evaluation and feedback should be taken up from both Teachers and Students.
We are all worried sick about the state of the economy and how will we push ourselves to make up for the lost time. Surprisingly not enough emphasis is being given to Education(on which India, BTW, spends 4.6% of its GDP). Even though I am currently not a student, it breaks my heart to see posts of my juniors on social media doing the rounds that the only talked about part in this system in the current situation is exams. Taking HSBC Analysis into records, an avg Indian parent spends about Rs 12L on his child's education; so let us bring back the focus on Studies, and not just Exams.
