Midwives are needed in Port Perry!

There are no midwifery practices in Scugog or Brock Township.
Based on the presence of this sizable underserved rural area, the growing number of Indigenous people in Durham Region, the presence of two First Nations communities within 40 minutes of Port Perry, and the unique social and health experiences of many marginalized pregnant people (e.g., people who are living with HIV, using substances, living in poverty, young parents) in Durham, a holistic midwifery practice is needed to best serve these unique needs in Port Perry.
This team of 3 Registered Midwives, 1 Indigenous Midwives/Nurse, 1 Indigenous Counsellor, and 1 Community Health Worker needs hospital privileges at Lakeridge Health Port Perry and Oshawa. They would support the work of the local family physicians in Port Perry and complement the midwives already working in Oshawa.
By signing this petition, I support the need for this team in Port Perry!
