MOHAMMAD SULAIMAN BIN SUKRI (B21301119) started this petition to Ministry of Health Malaysia and

On January 1, 2019, the Malaysian government enforced a law non-smoking area in food premises gazette in the tobacco products control regulations (amendment) act 2018. Smokers are only allowed to smoke in an area of three meters or 10 feet from open eateries and restaurants. However, today we can see that the ban is not implemented effectively and firmly when there are still many smokers who smoke cigarettes in the shop premises or restaurant when it is written "no smoking" sign. Cigarette smoke is dangerous to public health, especially for pregnant women and children. According to a study by the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, more than 40% of children worldwide are exposed to cigarette smoke at home and 31 percent of deaths are linked to cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke is also harmful to the health of adults because the smoke can cause heart disease and lung cancer. This needs to be prevented efficiently and effectively by the government. In addition, it will result in community health disruption which indirectly hinders the efforts of the SDGs in achieving Good Health and Well-being goals in Malaysian society. Therefore, as a concerned Malaysian, I would like to urge and pressure the government to carry out extreme campaigns or operations to eradicate the smoking culture in the restaurant or public places with the cooperation of the local authorities. When the authorities carry out their duties surely these smokers are afraid of the compound and will follow the guidelines.
