Navin Nagawa started this petition to MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MAURITIUS

There are more than 440 mauritians stranded abroad including 92 students and hundred of permit holders, non citizens who have already made plans and who urgently need to return to Mauritius.  They come from 35 different countries. The majority are stuck in South Africa (147) followed by France (62), the UK (39), UAE (38) and India (25).

They are in the dark as no flights scheduled by Air Mauritius, no quarantine hotel booking possible on MTPA website etc...

What everyone is asking is for government to give clear indications on repatriation plans, dates and timelime, so they know where they stand and can plan accordingly. Information is not being shared publicly and inter department so there are contradictory information on flights coming e.g which one is cargo or commercial, which flights approved

Time is of the essence and some people are really suffering in foreign countries e.g students having to pay rent, no income, no work etc.

By this petition we are asking foreign affairs to put some order in the house and between departments and communicate more on what are the plans.

Things to improve:

• Provide ongoing communication about scheduled flights, quarantine, and other relevant information on the MTPA and Ministry of Foreign Affairs websites.
• Provide listings of quarantine hotels on the MTPA website at least three weeks before the arrival of flights.
• Provide clear guidelines for the repatriation of distressed Mauritians and students.
• Ensure better coordination and communication between the EDB, Air Mauritius, the MTPA, Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
• Provide a two-page plan listing the government’s priorities for the repatriation of Mauritians, permit holders, preapproval holders, dependents and students, and access to Mauritius for Premium Visa holders.
• Disseminate through the MTPA and Foreign Affairs websites the effective dates for bans on persons entering Mauritius from COVID-infested countries.
• Provide lists of planned private, special and repatriation flights due, and of such flights that have landed.
• Provide a responsive service to Mauritians and residents to advise people stuck overseas, giving clear instructions for applications to be repatriated.

Free or subsidized prices for needy mauritians at quarantine hotels.

The current services in embassies and mfaconsular.gov.mu are non responsive.

People are confused and worried no clear plan and regular communication so we are urging for better coordination, accountability and more communication on this to help all who want to come to mauritius and facing difficulties.

We want to help authorities by voicing out our concerns and giving suggestions, our only aim is to help and reduce the hassle and stress of those looking to come back to Mauritius.
