Under the head of Medical Reimbursements, the maximum tax benefit available is Rs. 15,000 per annum. Under this head, one may avail for reduction in the taxable income for a maximum of or up to Rs. 15,000 for medical expenses during each financial year. Reimbursement by an employer of medical expenses incurred by an employee is generally tax-free.
This limit has been set in 1997 conitinues to be the same needs urgent upward revision considering the medical costs that have gone sky high. This limit of Rs. 15000/- is too meagre to support the medical expense of an individual and his/her dependents. Further insurance providers generally do not support OPD expenses.
Through this petition, I request the Finance Minister to consider this revision at the earliest possible opportunity. Please join me in supporting this cause.
