Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary - Amazon of the East

Covers an area of 111.19 km2 (42.93 sq mi) rainforest.  About 293 bird species, 47 mammal species, 47 reptile species, 30 butterfly species and 101 species of orchids have been recorded in Dihing Patkai.

The illegal Coal Mining inside Dehing Patkai has pushed the rainforest towards destruction. The recent green signal given by the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) to Coal India Limited for extraction of Coal from 98.59 hectares of land at Dehing Patkai in Saleki, which is an Elephant Reserve area, will completely destroy the sanctuary.
