Dear Sir/ Mam,

This is to request you to kindly look into the matter of conducting various examinations during this year (2020).

India is facing around 50,000 cases on a daily basis now and according to various statistics we haven’t reached the peak yet, which is predicted around November. Therefore any kind of social gathering needs to be avoided that just might lead to worsening the crisis.

However there are various examinations scheduled during this period like JEE, NEET, UPSC CSE etc. These examinations are written by lakhs of students all over the country and thus to expect the maintenance of social distancing will be highly unlikely.

Problems include lack of centres; centres being mostly in urban areas where more cases are there; lack of transportation facilities; parents accompanying adding to the numbers; accommodation restrictions; and ofcourse the high risk of transmission.

These examinations were already rescheduled due to the pandemic but seeing that the cases have doubled and India is now constantly facing highest cases in the world on a daily basis should be an enough ground to re-postpone them.

Even if seeing that the risk to youngsters is less and the recovery rate is good, cannot be grounds for sentencing these students to face the risk. Further, there is also the risk of transmission i.e. to the vulnerable section (people with pre-existing diseases and old age) from these students.

Final and last point is that it’s the life and health that matters the most and asking the future generation of the Nation to risk that for the sake of maintaining the academic calendar will truly be disappointing.

I hope you do not see this as an excuse to seek more time by students rather to establish a social responsibility that requires sacrifices by everyone for the greater good.

Warm Regards!
