Petition for Recycling Bins at Secondary Schools in Trinidad and Tobago
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
Having made several unsuccessful attempts to get recycling bins at our school, the RBC Young Leaders at Tranquillity Secondary School (WeTranquil) have embarked on getting recycling bins at all Secondary schools throughout the country.
We have discovered that in January 2017, Trinidad and Tobago was ranked as the 10th most toxic country in the world (the Eco Experts, Whittaker-Wood, 2017) and in 2010, a report indicated that we threw away 50 million plastic bottles in our dumps and one million glass bottles every month (Guardian, 2012). Plastikeep (2017) also revealed that Trinidadians send 500,000,000 (Five Hundred MILLION!) plastic bottles a year to our landfills. These are alarming figures!!
Since it is clear that schools are major contributors of waste and the Government is encouraging citizens to be more environmentally friendly, we would like to submit this petition to the relevant authorities to get recycling bins placed at all Secondary Schools in Trinidad and Tobago.
