If we don’t address that this is needed, these issues will continue to happen and it’s all because we decided to look the other way.

I had asked a teacher why sex education is absent in Malaysia's education system and while she understands the importance of it, she countered with the fact that Malaysia is a Muslim country and that it will inevitably increase the cases of sex-without-marriage which is a taboo in in this country but I think the safety of our children from the consequences of sex is much more important than that even though I am Muslim myself. This does not even cover how consent is heavily misconstrued in our culture especially the abundance of rape that are usually used as a plotholes in popular drama melayu. I want more safe consensual sex amongst all ages and hopefully we'll be seeing that change soon.

I believe that everyone should be well versed in sexual education so that they can better protect themselves. I know of adults in their 30s who still do not know much about sex and safe practices, and young adults who are taking risks because they do not know about the potential risks of unsafe sex and having multiple partners, and how to protect themselves.

Sex education helps with many things such as reducing rate of STIs, underage pregnancies, and the teaching of consent may also reduce the rate of rape and help victims realize when they are in an abusive relationship.

I think a lot of people misinterpret what sex ed is actually all about, especially in Msia. Introducing this subject in schools will change that for the better.
