Ashmeed Mohammed started this petition to Ministry of Education and

the carnival week, the Monday and Tuesday, preceding the Ash Wednesday, the catholic Lenten period, tends to be sparse week for school attendance. ministry says teachers show up but students stay home, parents say they send students but teachers stay home, and some times, children who go to school have to be sent home because there isn't proper supervision at school. but then, there may be no arrangement for children to be supervised at home, because they were expected to be at school.

intend of butting heads as to who is wrong and to blame, why not make the whole week off. people are exhausted on ash Wednesday, struggle to go to work are fighting the work, many stay home. the weekend after, tends to be beach and liming time. visitors who come for carnival would not have hosts to keep them as they return to work, so the  guests return to their homes.

if the problem is reduced study time, then take a week away from the august holidays, and make the carnival week a week off. no additional schooling time is lost, and people are not stressed out trying to make all work together... its a very tenable solution
arrangements can be made to have children supervised at home, family time and lime can be better arranged, foreigners can have a better extended stay in Trinidad, and probably businesses can take advantage of the extra entertainment opportunity.

oh, and the Catholics can attend their mass comfortably without upsetting the teachers.
