Limited Homework Policy in British Columbia

The World is changing but the Education System in BC is quite the same. Students are still required to do loads of homework they may or may not find useful. Homework is designed to take learning outside of the classroom environment but what if the environment at home is not a suitable working environment. Also if a student does not understand his/her homework he may or may not receive help from home. This questions the purpose of homework. I personally have ADHD and homework is a very painful process for me. I would like to propose a No Homework policy from the Grades K-5 and Limited Homework Policy for Grades 6-12 (30-45 min). Countries like Finland have adopted a similar idea of limited homework which lead to Finnish Students to consistently score near the top in the Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA, for reading, mathematics, and science. By limiting Homework students can spend their time on activities they enjoy and finally maybe enjoy a good night sleep.
