Since the close of schools in Uganda, students have lost valuable time that cannot be recovered. Our future is suspended and stands on uncertainty. Although it was just to close learning institutions as a measure of preventing Covid 19, the world has come to terms with the fact that we must learn to live with the new normal and that instead of governments continuing to keep schools locked, they should instead invest in measures of identification of victims, isolation and treatment.

Reportedly, according to June statistics by UNICEF Kitgum District Community Development Office presented in a meeting with UNICEF, 1,519 girls below 19 years visited a hospital for antenatal care since the Coronavirus pandemic forced schools shut in March.

Not only girls have been affected, most boys have given up on schools and are already finding alternatives, some have indeed become a problem to their parents and communities.

The government has since insisted that schools will only be opened after vaccination of teachers and students, yet even the vaccine has been reported to be dangerous and killing people instead of protecting them.

We therefore upon the government to open schools with immediate effect.
