For years Rastafarianism has been a huge part of the Jamaican culture, known aboard and locally but on the other hand schools are asking parents to cut their child’s hair, tie or style their child’s hair because they don’t think dreadlocks are appropriate to wear to school?? But why teach it and have it apart of our culture if the people of Jamaican cannot embrace it especially in schools?? This needs to stop, if the country of Jamaica is going to use Bob Marley and the Rastafarian culture as a representation of the Jamaican culture then children that have dreadlocks should be wearing their natural hair to school, I think it’s really hypocritical because if a caucasian child can wear their natural long hair in Jamaican school which I have seen many times why can’t a black child with dreadlocks do the same and it’s also hypocritical due to the fact that teachers as well that has dreadlocks are allowed to teach without any form of judgement.
