I love walking with dog, kids, family as much as possible locally and enjoying and embracing where you live. This is beautiful countryside on our doorstep which has always had public access and this shouldn’t be taken away, it is our right to access these areas.

I am signing this petition because the local community has had a historical right to use this land and should be able to do so with no additional restrictions.

The MOD lands are very important from a biodiversity point of view because they are largely on heathland, a habitat that is shrinking and under pressure. At the same time, these lands form important open space to the local community in a densely-populated part of the country. Large parts of these army lands are already 'out-of-bounds' to the public. However, where they can be accessed, they are widely used and support the health, recreation and well-being of the local community. It is very important that the present level and type of public access is not degraded or reduced.

This is the DIO sticking its oar in again! The military and civilian population have happily coexisted without problems for at least 40 years, perhaps more. There is no earthly reason or justification for this proposal.

I’ve grown up in Hawley woods and would hate to see the locals missing out on this amazing space.

Essentially the MoD is funded by the Public, for the Public and therefore MoD land belongs to the Public! Obviously there need to be some restrictions, to ensure public safety when firing ranges are in use, or during military exercises. Such land provides essential habitat for flora and fauna and should not be sold off for housing or other development (as has been done in and around Catterick Garrison). These plots of land provide a useful 'Green lung' amid pollution generated by Farnborough Airport, M3, A331 and congestion caused by bus lanes.
